ACA: Limited Non Assessment Period Update (M3-2457)

Previously, in order for the MEC box to be marked and for employee counts to be calculated correctly, users were required to enter two separate statuses on the Employee ACA tab:

  • One status for the period when the employee was in the Limited Non-Assessment Period, with the box marked.

  • A second status for when the employee was no longer in the Limited Non-Assessment Period.

Additionally, on the Coverage dropdown, users had to define the same time period in the Employer Relief section for when the employee was in the Limited Non-Assessment Period.

This update eliminates the need to enter two statuses. The system now correctly processes MEC and employee counts based solely on the Coverage setup, including the Employer Relief settings.

Note: No changes are required for employees who already have two statuses entered. The system will now correctly handle both single and dual-status configurations.

Secure Act 2.0: Support for Roth Catch-up Contributions (M3-2289)

Updates have been made to support Section 603 of the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022, which places new requirements on elective deferrals for certain employees. Specifically, employees who are at least 50 years old, earned $145,000 or more in FICA wages in the previous calendar year, and choose to make catch-up contributions must now do so on a Roth basis. To comply with this regulation, the system has been enhanced to automatically identify and apply Roth catch-up contributions, during the payroll process for employees who meet these criteria.

A new Additional Settings tab has been added within the Company Setup > Deductions screen. This tab will only be visible for deduction codes that use a 401k, 403b, or 457b deduction type. Within this tab, users will need to select the appropriate Roth deduction code that will be applied when catch-up contributions are required to be made on a Roth basis.

When an employee qualifies for Roth catch-up contributions, the system will begin deducting on a Roth basis automatically during payroll. In situations where prior-year FICA wages are not available, an override can be manually configured within the Employees > Deductions screen. For more details on how to configure this override, refer to Release Note M3-2655.

Secure Act 2.0: Additional Settings Tab in Employee Deductions (M3-2655)

A new Additional Settings tab has been added under Employee>Deductions.

This enhancement allows users to manually specify the year an employee met the $145,000 wage threshold, overriding the system look-back logic. It is designed to assist in situations where prior year Year-to-Date (YTD) data is not available in the system.

Secure Act 2.0: Pre Process Payroll Audit Update (M3-1219)

The Pre Process Audit on the Payroll Service Properties has been update to check for employees missing a Roth catch-up code. By default, this audit is set to “Skip”. Users can change the setting to show a warning or an error when the payroll is processed.

Secure Act 2.0: Deferred Comp Management Service (M3-2620)

The new deferred comp management service (DeferCompMgmt) is now available in the list of service options.

The properties contain three tabs Mapping, Eligibility, and Automation. Each can be customized based on the employer’s plan.
