Device Types

The Device Types page lists all devices that are used by your company to track hours. This tab is for informational purposes only. The type of device determines how the device interacts with employee identification. The supported device types are:

  • Barcode — Device that reads a bar code off an employee identification card. The card can be swiped as well.
  • Biometric — Device that scans an employee's fingerprint to determine identity.
  • iPhone — A smartphone application that runs on iOS that the employee can use to punch in or out. No physical device required.
  • Kiosk — A web application that allows multiple employees who work in the same location to punch in-and-out from a single computer.
  • Proximity — Device that reads an employee identification card by tapping it to the reader.
  • PunchInOut — A feature in the Time Management website that allows punch employees to punch in and out of work.

The list of device types is primarily a reference list, as the device itself reads the punch data, processes it, and reports it to Time Management. Time Management then takes the data and manages it.
