How to Work with Reports

This topic explains the general concepts of Millennium® 3 reports.

References are made to nodes as if you are looking at the tree view. Companies can be included under both the All node and any number of company sets. In order to keep explanations simple, please know that references such as [company] > Reporting can actually mean both of the following:

  • All Companies > [company] > Reporting –and/or–
  • [company set] > [company] > Reporting

Overview

Note: The [company] > Reports node is soon to be removed. However, all the reports listed under the Reports node exist in other areas of the system; all functionality is retained and enhanced in the nodes described in the rest of the help text.

Millennium® houses a reports library of predefined reports and a feature with which you can create your own reports.

  • You can run any report in the library.
  • The Report Writer function allows you to develop your own custom reports.

You can set each report to run in a number of ways through a couple of options: Grouping & Sorting, and Additional Formulas.

You can access reports for both the company and the system in several ways:

  • Select [company] > Reporting in the Tree View pane.
  • Select Reports from the Module Select bar.
  • Select [company] > Company Maintenance > Reporting in the Tree View pane.
  • Select System > Reports in the Tree View pane.
  • Select System > Reports from the Module Select bar.
  • Select System > Tax > Filing > Reporting in the Tree View pane.

Three different types of reports exist in the system:

  • Hard-coded—These are included in Millennium®’s code.
  • Crystal Reports—These are written by MPAY (or your own organization, if you have the qualified personnel).
  • Report Writer—These are written by you. Anyone in your organization that has the appropriate access can use the Millennium® Report Writer to define your own reports.

The type of report is indicated in the Report Type column.

Select [company] > Company Maintenance > Reporting. This is where you put reports that happen during processing, during quarterlies, and so on. Whatever reports you put in a particular folder are automatically scheduled to be generated when that event occurs. You can drag-and-drop reports into these folders; in doing so, you’re automatically scheduling that report to be run at the time specified by the name of the folder.

Select [company] > Reporting. This is where the “ad hoc” reports go for quick access, as opposed to scheduling the reports like in the other node.

In the My Reports pane, those reports are specific by user, no matter which reporting node you’re in. They follow you no matter where you go within the Millennium® interface.
